Cricketing excitement reached new heights as former India star Yusuf Pathan inaugurated the Cricket Academy of Pathans (CAP) at Sansys Smart School at Tingrai Chariali in Duliajan on Wednesday. The charismatic all-rounder received a rousing welcome from students, cricket enthusiasts, and dignitaries at the occasion.
The launch of CAP marks the opening of Dibrugarh district’s first and Assam’s second Cricket Academy of Pathans, which is celebrated as one of India’s premier coaching networks with over 35 academies nationwide. The new facility promises to boost grassroots cricket in upper Assam and provide aspiring cricketers with top-notch, technology-enabled training under the guidance of experienced Level 2 and Level 3 coaches.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Yusuf Pathan said, “I am very happy to be here. We have 35 such centres running in India and we intend to open 10 more in the next two years. It is heartening to witness the excitement among youngsters here. They should practice hard with discipline, represent the state and, one day, the country in cricket. I encourage them to target goals like Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and eventually the national team.”
The Cricket Academy of Pathans is a visionary initiative by cricketing brothers Yusuf and Irfan Pathan, designed to nurture talent from the grassroots with a curriculum combining technology, tactical learning, and professional coaching. “CAP will not just groom cricketers, it will also provide a platform where aspirations turn into achievement,” Yusuf noted.
The Duliajan centre, located at Sansys Smart School, features modern facilities, well-maintained pitches, and advanced training modules aimed at unlocking the region’s sporting potential. Yusuf Pathan added, “Players from Assam and other Northeastern states now have a dedicated space to hone their skills and chase their cricketing dreams.”
A hard-hitting batsman and impact player, Yusuf Pathan represented India in 57 ODIs, 22 T20 internationals, and 174 IPL matches over an illustrious career. The legacy he brings promises to inspire and empower the next generation of cricketers in Dibrugarh and beyond.
