Dibrugarh University on Tuesday observed the birth anniversary of late legendary artist Zubeen Garg with a heartfelt tribute programme that brought together students, faculty, and admirers from across the region.
Organised under the initiative of the university administration in collaboration with the Dibrugarh University Post-Graduate Students’ Union (DUPGSU), the event celebrated the life and legacy of the beloved singer, composer, and cultural icon. The highlight of the evening was a special musical performance of Zubeen’s classic song “Mayabini,” which moved many in attendance.
The celebration featured a range of cultural performances by students, including musical renditions, dance, and poetry dedicated to Zubeen’s contributions to Assamese music and cinema. The vibrant atmosphere reflected the deep admiration and emotional connection the people of Assam continue to feel for the late artist.

Inaugurating the programme, Dibrugarh University Vice-Chancellor Prof Jiten Hazarika said, “Zubeen Garg was not just an artist; he was an emotion that united generations through his music. His songs will continue to inspire every Assamese heart.”
Registrar Dr. Paramananda Sonowal also addressed the gathering, stating, “Zubeen’s artistry transcended boundaries of genre and language. Remembering him today reminds us of the cultural renaissance he brought to our region.”

Members of the DUPGSU expressed gratitude to the university administration for supporting the tribute event. A student representative shared, “For us, Zubeen Da’s music is a source of strength and creativity. Paying homage to him at our own university is truly special.”
The programme concluded with the audience joining in chorus to sing some of Zubeen’s beloved songs, leaving the campus echoing with his enduring spirit.
