The Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of IGAR (North), conducted a Sports Items Distribution Programme at Wakka in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Monday, partnering with NGO Team DESH to promote youth engagement through athletics and physical activities.
The community outreach initiative witnessed the distribution of diverse sports equipment—including footballs, volleyballs, badminton kits, carrom boards, and various training gear—to youth groups, school students, and local sports clubs throughout Wakka Circle. The programme seeked to inspire young people to embrace sports proactively and redirect their enthusiasm toward constructive, disciplined, and meaningful pursuits.
The event was attended by Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs), Village Chiefs, Gram Panchayat Committee members, and representatives from Youth and Students’ Unions, who commended the collaborative efforts between Assam Rifles and Team DESH in empowering rural youth across Longding District.
Representatives from the Khonsa Battalion highlighted the strategic importance of sports promotion in remote regions. “Promoting sports in remote and sensitive areas plays a vital role in instilling discipline, promoting teamwork, and enhancing leadership qualities among young people,” an Assam Rifles spokesperson stated.
Community members, village authorities, and local educators expressed profound appreciation for the initiative. “We are deeply grateful to Assam Rifles and Team DESH for their efforts in promoting healthy lifestyles, motivating youth, and strengthening community bonding in Wakka,” said a village elder.
The programme concluded with an interactive session where youth participants were encouraged to pursue competitive sports at circle, district, and state levels. Officials expressed aspirations of preparing talented athletes for future representation at national and international sporting platforms, transforming grassroots enthusiasm into professional excellence.
