Women’s Empowerment Key to Nation-Building, Says Union Minister Sonowal

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the vital role of women in India’s development journey during the valedictory ceremony of Panitola Higher Secondary Girls’ School’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in Tinsukia district on Sunday.

The Minister unveiled the school’s commemorative souvenir, marking the conclusion of two years of celebrations honouring five decades of girls’ education in the region.

“Women have always held a special place in society. Whether in India or anywhere in the world, women have made their mark through their unique strength and talent,” Sonowal said, extending gratitude to the institution’s founders and land donors.

He emphasised the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

“A nation that truly respects its women is indeed a great nation. It is only after Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office that the government launched several major initiatives for women’s empowerment, among which the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign has become a nationwide movement,” he stated.

Drawing from his ministerial portfolio, Sonowal highlighted women’s contributions: “In the ministries under my charge—Ports, Shipping and Waterways—women have been managing key responsibilities with remarkable efficiency. Women’s power today is taking India’s development journey to greater heights.

“Expressing confidence in the students, the Minister declared, “I am confident that the students of this school are capable of realising the vision of Viksit Bharat envisioned by PM Narendra Modi.”
