State Minister for Hills Area Development and Cooperation, Jogen Mohan on Monday inaugurated the newly constructed state-of-the-art building of the Sepon Police Outpost in Charaideo district, giving a modern facelift to a unit that has been contributing to maintaining law and order since 1965.
The revamped facility has been formally designated as a Child-Friendly Police Outpost, aligning policing with a more sensitive and people-centric approach.

Addressing the gathering after unveiling the new building, Mohan underlined the government’s focus on responsive governance and citizen-centric policing. “I hope that from now on, this outpost will stand as a stronger and more effective example of resolving public grievances promptly. This facility has been opened to ensure the smooth management of the law and order situation in the district. I have deep confidence that this newly constructed office and building will further inspire the police administration to continue their work for the welfare of the public,” he said.

Officials said the upgraded outpost is equipped to handle both routine policing and special situations with greater efficiency, while its child-friendly orientation aims to make the premises more approachable for children and vulnerable groups. The initiative is in line with a broader effort across several states to make police stations less intimidating and more accessible, especially for minors in distress.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sonari MLA Dharmeswar Konwar, Assam Industrial Development Corporation Chairman Topon Kumar Gogoi, Charaideo District Commissioner Neha Yadav, Charaideo SSP Surjeet Singh Panesar, Sivasagar SSP Subhashish Baruah and other senior officials and local representatives.

During the event, SSP Surjeet Singh Panesar briefly narrated the history of the Sepon Police Outpost, which has been in operation since 1965 and has played a key role in maintaining peace and order in the district over the decades. He noted that the new building symbolises both continuity and change in local policing.
“The Sepon Police Outpost has been a pillar of law enforcement in this area for six decades. With this modern facility, we are better equipped to serve our community with improved infrastructure, technology, and specialised provisions for handling sensitive cases, particularly those involving children and vulnerable individuals,” Panesar said.
