The Charaideo District Administration, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit and the State Child Protection Society, launched a 90-day awareness campaign titled “Safe Childhood, Golden Assam” on Thursday. The initiative, inaugurated at the District Commissioner’s office, aims to strengthen child protection mechanisms and raise public consciousness about children’s safety and welfare across the district.
District Commissioner Dr Neha Yadav formally launched the campaign and delivered an extensive address on the theme “Safe Childhood, Golden Assam,” emphasising the critical role of community vigilance in safeguarding children’s rights and wellbeing.
“Child protection is not just the responsibility of the administration or specific departments—it requires collective action from every member of society. We must all remain alert and conscious in identifying and preventing any form of abuse, exploitation, or neglect of children. This 90-day campaign represents our commitment to creating a safer environment for every child in Charaideo district. A protected childhood is the foundation of a prosperous future, and through this initiative, we aim to build awareness at the grassroots level,” the DC said during the launch event.

The campaign, organised under the aegis of the Women and Child Development Department will focus on multiple aspects of child protection including preventing child labour, combating child marriage, addressing child trafficking, ensuring access to education, and creating awareness about children’s legal rights and entitlements.
“Over the next three months, we will conduct extensive outreach programs across all blocks of the district, engaging with communities, schools, and local institutions to strengthen our child protection network. Our goal is to ensure that every child grows up in a safe, nurturing environment free from exploitation and harm,” Assistant Commissioner and Child Protection Officer Barasha Saikia said.

The launch event witnessed significant participation from district-level officials and grassroots workers committed to child welfare. Among those present were Additional District Commissioner Sujata Gogoi, Additional Superintendent of Police Jyotiprasad Pegu, District Social Welfare Officer, all Block Development Officers, and Child Development Project Officers.
Representatives from crucial child protection institutions including members of Child Welfare Committees and the Juvenile Justice Board Charaideo also attended, alongside the District Labour Inspector, officers from the District Child Protection Unit, police officials, staff from Integrated Child Development Centres, and approximately two hundred workers from participating departments.
