Dibrugarh Airport Holds Fog Preparedness Drill Ahead of Peak Winter

Dibrugarh Airport conducted a detailed fog preparedness meeting on Saturday, involving all key operational stakeholders to ensure smooth flight operations during the winter fog season.

The meeting, chaired by Airport Director Bangajit Saha, included officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), India Meteorological Department (IMD), CISF, airlines, and ground handling agencies. The session focused on coordinating responses to low-visibility conditions that frequently disrupt schedules.

“We reviewed all critical aspects, from weather forecasting and aircraft operational limits to passenger safety and communication protocols. A dry run was conducted, and clear instructions have been issued to all teams to ensure readiness,” Saha said.

Key discussions centred on IMD’s fog advisory mechanisms, airline preparedness for low-visibility landings, and contingency plans for passenger handling during delays. A significant outcome was the formation of a dedicated coordination group for real-time information sharing and swift decision-making.

“This group will be active 24/7 during dense fog, ensuring all units work in sync,” an AAI official stated.

The airport has emphasised passenger communication, directing airlines and service agencies to provide timely updates to travellers in case of disruptions. CISF has also been briefed on managing terminal crowds during extended waits.

AAI reaffirmed its commitment to minimising weather-related impacts. “Our focus remains on safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly operations throughout the season,” the authority said in a statement.

The proactive drill aims to mitigate the annual travel disruptions caused by winter fog, which significantly affects flight operations in the region from late December through February.
