In a targeted effort to strengthen investigative foundations at the grassroots, Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range) Satya Raj Hazarika on Monday led an intensive masterclass for newly promoted Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) from Jorhat, Majuli, and Sivasagar districts. The session, held at the Jorhat Police Reserve, focused on instilling flawless procedural acumen and adapting to contemporary crime.

Addressing the frontline officers, IGP Hazarika highlighted the evolving nature of criminality and the non-negotiable need for scientific, methodical investigation. “The landscape of crime is changing rapidly. Today’s investigator must be as proficient with forensic awareness and digital evidence as they are with traditional methods,” he stated. He mentioned that meticulous procedure forms the essential framework for secure and unbiased justice.

The lecture delved into critical aspects of modern policing, including precise evidence collection, proper documentation for charge-sheeting under the CrPC, and ethical witness management. A significant portion was dedicated to the integration of technology, highlighting the growing importance of digital forensics and cyber evidence preservation in building robust cases.
The IGP firmly linked procedural integrity to the core mission of law enforcement. “We must understand that the integrity of our investigation is judged not by conviction rates alone, but by the adherence to fair and non-negotiable procedure. A single lapse in protocol can compromise justice,” Hazarika told the officers. He reminded them that their duty is to uphold the law impartially for both victim and accused.

The interactive program concluded with a question-and-answer session, allowing the ASIs to discuss specific field challenges. This initiative marks a continued push by police leadership to bridge the gap between traditional policing and the demands of modern criminal investigation, ensuring officers are equipped with both the knowledge and ethical compass required for their crucial roles.
