The 17th edition of the Bodousa Cup, a prestigious National Level Invitational Football Tournament, commenced at Sonjan Public Playground in Dirak, Tinsukia district on Friday, bringing together teams from across northeastern India and beyond for a competitive showcase of football talent.
The tournament, organised by Bodousa Sports Club under the supervision of the Assam Football Association and All Moran Students’ Union, was inaugurated by State Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika. The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished guests including Sadiya MLA Bolin Chetia, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, and Moran Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member (CEM) Arunjyoti Moran.

The inaugural match featured an exciting encounter between Polo FC and Uthias FC, setting the tone for what promises to be an action-packed tournament. Football enthusiasts gathered in large numbers to witness the opening day festivities and support their favorite teams.
During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Hazarika paid respectful homage to Moran King Bodousa, after whom the tournament is named, honouring the historical and cultural significance of the event. “I am delighted to inaugurate this tournament which not only promotes sportsmanship but also celebrates our rich cultural heritage,” the Minister stated.

This year’s edition has attracted considerable attention with 13 teams participating from multiple states. Teams from Assam will compete alongside squads from Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, West Bengal, and Mizoram, making it a truly multi-state sporting spectacle that showcases the region’s diverse football culture.
“The Bodousa Cup has grown significantly over the years and has become a platform for young talent to shine,” Arunjyoti Moran said.

The tournament serves as an important fixture in the northeastern football calendar, providing opportunities for players to display their skills and gain exposure. Over the years, the Bodousa Cup has earned recognition for its competitive standards and excellent organisation.
With teams from six states battling for supremacy, the 17th Bodousa Cup promises thrilling matches and memorable moments for football fans.
