An inspiring “Ekta Padayatra” (Unity March) was taken out from the Chowkidinghee playground in Dibrugarh on Saturday to honour the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, one of India’s greatest freedom fighters and the architect of national integration.
The event began with Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal paying respectful tribute to Sardar Patel. He lit the ceremonial lamp and offered floral wreaths at Patel’s portrait.
“Sardar Patel’s vision of a united India is our guiding light. His leadership united princely states and gave us the foundation of the modern nation,” Sonowal said.

The “Ekta Padayatra” saw enthusiastic participation from local residents, Army personnel, NCC cadets, and students. The march passed through key parts of Dibrugarh, spreading the message of national unity and integrity that Patel championed throughout his life.
The march was attended by several prominent leaders, including Assam State Power Minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan, State Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Borah, MLAs Chakradhar Gogoi and Terosh Gowala, along with Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi.

The playground also featured vibrant patriotic cultural performances celebrating India’s unity in diversity. The event concluded with a solemn pledge to uphold Patel’s ideals of unity and integration.
