DHSK College (Autonomous) Principal Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia and dignitaries launched three books at the Lalchand Kanoi Auditorium at the College premises in Dibrugarh on Sunday. Organised by Dibrugarh District Lekhika Samaj, the creative literature and cultural programme featured the release of “Avrabhedi Sur Malita” by Archana Bora, and “Emuthi Limarick” and “Charai Howa Hole” by Class IX student Bagmita Gogoi.
“Literature helps people to broaden their world of thought. The advanced literature of the developed countries of the world has awakened nationalism and intellectual consciousness among the people,” Dr Saikia stated. “It is true that science and technology can give people physical happiness, but it is real literature that teaches everyone in society to live as human beings. A nation without literature cannot preserve its history.”
He stressed that preserving language and literature is not just writers’ duty but a sacred responsibility for every citizen. “The next generation loses its roots due to lack of creative literature,” he added. “Creative literature can prevent intellectual and mental poverty, cultural identity crisis, language stagnation and distortion of history from society.”
The event, inaugurated by Dr Saikia, was chaired by Lekhika Samaj President Madhumita Dutta, with Secretary Anita Gogoi outlining objectives. Attendees included retired APDCL officer Ranjan Dutta. Authors Archana Bora and Bagmita Gogoi shared insights.
Cultural highlights featured dances by Ankita Borthakur, Kanjun Das, Nibha Borchetia, and Banashree Devi. A group performance dazzled by Lorioli Bagmita Gogoi, Aradhya Bora, and Tijusmita Das. Child artist Chauli Gogoi paid tribute to the late Zubeen Garg.
Awards went to Junti Bora Gogoi (Organisational Achievement) and Rimjhim Saikia (Inspirational Award). Poets Bitumoni Gogoi and Minakshi Das Baruah also graced the occasion. Anita Gogoi delivered the vote of thanks, celebrating a vibrant fusion of literature and culture.
