The skies above Guwahati came alive on Sunday as nearly 60 military aircraft painted the horizon with precision aerial manoeuvres during the 93rd Air Force Day celebrations at Lachit Ghat, offering citizens a breathtaking display of India’s air power and regional pride.
The spectacular showcase featured the Indian Air Force’s frontline assets, including Rafale fighters, Su-30 MKI jets, Mirage aircraft, indigenous Tejas light combat aircraft, and Apache attack helicopters executing complex formations over the Brahmaputra River. The display drew massive crowds eager to witness the IAF’s operational capabilities firsthand.
This year’s celebrations embraced the theme “Infallible, Impervious and Precise,” highlighting the IAF’s commitment to operational excellence and unwavering vigilance in protecting India’s airspace. The event honoured the courage and dedication of air force personnel, including the celebrated Suryakiran Aerobatic Team.
“The air show demonstrates our readiness and operational precision while celebrating our deep connection with the Northeast,” said an IAF spokesperson during the event.

In a unique blend of military tradition and regional heritage, formations were named after iconic Northeast landmarks—Lachit, Kaziranga, Manas, Elephant (Haati), and Barak—connecting the IAF’s modern capabilities with the region’s rich cultural legacy.
The indigenous LCA Tejas opened the aerial display carrying the call sign “Lachit,” paying tribute to legendary Assamese military commander Lachit Barphukan. Apache helicopters flew under the call sign “Rhinoceros,” honouring the region’s celebrated wildlife conservation efforts.
Adding cultural flavour to the military spectacle, organisers incorporated a musical tribute to Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg, with his popular song “Mayabini Ratir Bukut” accompanying select aerial displays, creating an emotional resonance with local audiences.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the event, witnessing the impressive demonstration of air power.
“Celebrating Air Force Day in Guwahati strengthens our bond with the Northeast and showcases the IAF’s commitment to protecting every corner of our nation,” Chief Minister Sarma said.
The event successfully merged military prowess with regional identity, leaving spectators inspired by India’s air defense capabilities.
