Souvenir ‘Raas Chandrima’ Launched During Dibrugarh Raas Festival

A souvenir titled “Raas Chandrima” was unveiled during the Dibrugarh Raas festival on Saturday, commemorating the region’s centuries-old cultural heritage and the profound significance of this traditional celebration.

Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia, Principal of Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi (DHSK) College, who launched the souvenir, highlighted the deeper meaning of the festival.

“Raas is not just dance and song, it is one of the highest arts of human life. Just as the Raas Leela of Lord Krishna is a symbol of eternal love and religion, the Raas festival in today’s age is a means of building society and advancing the thoughts and philosophies of the new generation in unity,” he said.

Dr Saikia described the souvenir as more than mere documentation. “This is not a page of paper, it is the colourful tune of social life and the memory of history, the heartbeat of Dibrugarh Raas,” he stated, adding that the festival transcends religious ceremony to become “a meeting place of devotion, culture and creativity of society.”

Dr Dilip Bhuyan, Chairman of the Dibrugarh Raas Committee, who presided over the event, remarked, “Raas is a unique melody of human life, which is connected by devotion, art, work and history and heritage.”

The event was moderated by Jadav Gogoi, Vice President of Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha, and Dr Krishna Narayan Dutta Barua, Secretary of the Raas Festival, who elaborated on the festival’s objectives. Distinguished attendees included Ratul Gohain, Chandan Majumder, Dr Jyoti Prasad Pukan, and Manjit Bora, among other prominent citizens.

Raas Mahotsav remains Assam’s beloved festival, uniquely blending dance, music, and theatre in devotion to Lord Krishna.
