Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal conducted a review of the Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL) at Namrup on Sunday, assessing the company’s operational performance and monitoring the progress of the upcoming Assam Valley Fertilizer & Chemicals Company Limited (AVFCCL) plant.

Upon arrival at the BVFCL premises, Sonowal was received by Director (Finance) Subhash Chandra Das and accorded a Guard of Honour by the CISF Unit, Namrup. The Minister subsequently chaired a detailed review meeting in the conference hall, where senior officials presented updates on the fertiliser corporation’s current status and future trajectory.
During the meeting, Director (Finance) Subhash Chandra Das and General Manager (Marketing) Satyajit Mishra delivered a presentation covering BVFCL’s production performance, marketing operations, and strategic plans. They emphasised the critical role of the Namrup-III unit, currently the sole urea-producing fertiliser plant across the entire North Eastern region and a vital source of both direct and indirect employment for the area.

The presentation included detailed insights into the plant’s physical performance in manufacturing operations and BVFCL’s significant contribution to urea supply for farmers throughout the region. Sonowal also took stock of the AVFCCL project, reviewing completed activities and examining the commissioning roadmap for the new facility.
Addressing the gathering, Sonowal urged “Team BVFCL” to maintain cohesive efforts and continue their contribution to national growth. “I call for closer collaboration with agriculture departments and agricultural universities so that the company’s efforts are better aligned with the country’s agricultural and fertiliser needs,” the Minister stated.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on the North Eastern region, Sonowal described the upcoming AVFCCL plant as “a testimony to this focus.” He exhorted stakeholders to “work in unity, rather than in silos, to ensure overall growth of the region and to bring further glory to Namrup as one of the prominent industrial hubs of the country.”
In his interaction with media following the review meeting, Sonowal expressed satisfaction with BVFCL’s performance. “BVFCL is going strong and is on course to achieve its production targets for the current year,” he said. The Minister added that the AVFCCL project would “open up new markets and export opportunities for fertilisers from Assam and the North East.”
Sonowal expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for approving the new plant and reaffirmed the Central Government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the fertiliser sector in the region.
