Pune Traffic Police launched a major drive against illegal parking on Thursday, towing away numerous two-wheelers parked in no-parking zones along the busy Laxmi Road in the heart of the city.
The action was part of an ongoing effort to decongest one of Pune’s most crowded commercial areas, where haphazard parking has long been a major contributor to traffic snarls and pedestrian inconvenience.

Traffic police personnel were deployed along various stretches of Laxmi Road during the operation, systematically identifying and removing vehicles parked in designated no-parking zones. Tow trucks were pressed into service to transport the impounded two-wheelers to the traffic police headquarters.
“We have been receiving numerous complaints from commuters and shopkeepers about vehicles blocking the roads and footpaths. Today’s drive is aimed at sending a strong message that traffic rules must be followed,” said a senior traffic police official.

The crackdown comes amid growing concerns over traffic congestion in the area, particularly during peak business hours when shoppers and traders flock to the popular shopping destination. Illegally parked vehicles have been blocking traffic flow and forcing pedestrians onto the roads, creating hazardous conditions.
“Parking in no-parking zones not only causes traffic jams but also poses a safety risk. Vehicle owners must use designated parking facilities. Strict action will be taken against violators,” the official added.
Shopkeepers and local residents have long demanded stricter enforcement of parking regulations on Laxmi Road. While some vehicle owners expressed frustration over the lack of adequate parking infrastructure, authorities maintained that compliance with traffic rules is non-negotiable.

The traffic police have warned that such drives will continue regularly, and repeat offenders will face heavier penalties. Vehicle owners can retrieve their impounded two-wheelers after paying the prescribed fine at the traffic police office.
Authorities have appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic regulations and utilize designated parking areas to ensure smooth traffic movement in the city.
