In a detailed on-ground assessment, Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi on Tuesday reviewed the ongoing preparations at the Namrup venue for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit on December 21. The Prime Minister is set to lay the foundation stone for a landmark Rs 11,000-crore Ammonia-Urea fertiliser project and address a large public rally.

Accompanied by Assam Valley Fertilizer & Chemical Company Limited (AVFCCL) Managing Director Shiva Prasad Mohanty and senior officials, the MLA inspected the site, which is being readied to accommodate thousands of attendees. Following the inspection, Gogoi chaired a high-level coordination meeting with officials from the district administration, police, PWD, APDCL, PHE, and other departments to finalise security, infrastructure, crowd management, and logistical plans for the high-profile event.

Speaking to reporters, the MLA said, “The Rs 11,000-crore project will be a game-changer for Assam and the entire North East. We are committed to flawless arrangements. This project will boost agriculture and generate substantial employment.”
Echoing the sentiment, AVFCCL MD Shiva Prasad Mohanty noted, “This foundation ceremony marks the start of a transformative journey for fertiliser production in the region, which will revolutionise agricultural input availability.”

The AVFCCL project itself is a major collaborative venture. The primary stakeholders in the company are the Government of Assam, holding the largest equity stake of 40%, and its partners: National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), Oil India Limited (OIL), Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL), and Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited (BVFCL).

The new facility, with an annual capacity of 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of urea, is designed to meet the fertiliser requirements of farmers across Assam and neighbouring states. It is expected to ensure timely availability, reduce input costs, and become the largest urea-producing unit in North Eastern India, driving agricultural and economic growth in the region.
