Over 5,000 Join BJP in Lakhimpur

In a major boost for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, more than 5,000 people—including members of the Congress, other political parties, and several local organisations—joined the BJP in Lakhimpur on Tuesday.

They were presented with the party’s signature scarves and caps by Lakhimpur BJP MLA Manab Deka, who presided over the ceremony. A large number of women were among those who switched allegiance to the ruling party.

Welcoming the new entrants, MLA Deka said the wave of support reflects people’s trust in the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP’s commitment to the state’s development.

“The people of Assam are no longer willing to trust parties that practiced appeasement politics and ignored the real issues of the people for decades. Under the leadership of our Chief Minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has delivered on promises of peace, infrastructure, and social welfare. This mass joining is proof that people want continuity and progress,” Deka said.

He further emphasised that the BJP’s focus remains on inclusive growth, women empowerment, and youth-oriented development programmes. “The enthusiasm among women and youth today shows that the BJP is not just a party—it has become a people’s movement in Assam,” he added.

With the elections expected to be announced early next year, party leaders said that the BJP is intensifying its outreach efforts across districts to consolidate its organisational base. New members from the Congress and other regional groups expressed confidence in the BJP’s development agenda.

One of the new joiners, a local youth leader, said, “We have seen real change in our villages through welfare schemes, road development, and employment drives. That’s why we decided to join the BJP family.” The event ended with chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Modi, Himanta Zindabad,” echoing through the crowd. Party insiders said more joining programmes are planned in the coming weeks as part of BJP’s campaign momentum leading up to the assembly election.
