NRL’s P2P Initiative Launches Second Batch in Majuli

The ‘Pipeline to Possibilities (P2P)’ initiative, funded by Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), launched its second residential training batch on Monday at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Majuli. The program aims to skill 60 Assamese youth as certified gas plumbing technicians, directly addressing a critical national shortage in the booming natural gas distribution ecosystem.

With India’s gas pipeline network surpassing 34,000 km and domestic connections exceeding 15.3 million, the sector requires over 1.2 million skilled technicians. Currently, fewer than 1% of Indian plumbers are formally trained for gas systems. The P2P program, structured as a comprehensive six-month residential course, is a strategic response to this gap, aligning with the national goal to raise natural gas’s share in the energy mix to 15% by 2030.

“Through our CSR commitment, NRL is investing in human capital for the nation’s energy transition. P2P is creating a pipeline of skilled, safety-conscious professionals who will build and secure our gas infrastructure,” stated a senior NRL official.

The first batch successfully concluded on November 30, paving the way for the second group that will train until February 2026. The curriculum blends classroom instruction with intensive hands-on practice, focusing on safe installation, maintenance, and procedural compliance.

Executed in collaboration with ITI Majuli, which provides residential and technical training infrastructure, and coordinated by the Media Management Group for Literacy and Development (MMGLD), the project exemplifies a scalable CSR model. It offers youth a tangible pathway to sustainable employment and positioning Assam’s youth at the forefront of a major national industry.
