In a crucial step to address contemporary threats, a crucial discussion on ‘Digital Safety and Gender-Based Violence’ was held at Kamalabari, Majuli, on Wednesday. The session, a collaborative effort by Sankalp NGO, the Department of Women and Child Welfare, and the district administration, forms a key part of the global 16-day activism campaign against gender-based violence.

With a focus on the evolving nature of crime, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Majuli, Rajashree Dhandia, who attended as the chief guest and delivered a powerful address. She outlined actionable strategies for individuals to protect themselves online and highlighted the rising criminal activities targeting women and third-gender individuals in digital spaces.

ASP Dhandia highlighted the non-negotiable link between digital literacy and personal safety. “In this increasingly digital world, safety must extend beyond the physical realm. We must educate ourselves on concrete strategies to secure our online identities, recognising that criminal activities are expanding to target vulnerable groups in cyber spaces,” she stated.

The event, aligned with the international campaign running from November 25 to December 10, brought together community members, activists, and officials to dissect the multifaceted nature of modern gender-based violence.
The session concluded with a collective pledge from attendees to propagate digital safety knowledge within their communities, reinforcing the need for unified action to create a safer environment for all.
