Under the inspiring motto “Inclusion is not a privilege, it is a right — Every Child Deserves a Spring Time,” the H-Spring Foundation on Wednesday celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at its centre in Diking, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh showcasing the creative talents and unique potential of Children with Special Needs (CwSNs).
The vibrant event brought together students, parents, teachers, and dignitaries in a display of inclusive spirit and artistic expression. Teachers and students from SFS School Pasighat, Siang Royal Academy, and D Ering Memorial Government HSS School participated in the celebration.
Dr Yagling Perme, District Medical Officer (DMO) of East Siang, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and emphasised the significance of creating awareness, promoting empowerment, and building an inclusive society. “These children’s talents shine brightly when given the right support and enabling environment,” Dr Perme stated, praising the creative arts and performances showcased during the event.
The DMO commended the unwavering dedication of H-Spring Foundation Chairperson Dr Oimang Megu and her team for nurturing an environment where children can express themselves freely and celebrate their individuality. Dr Perme, along with other dignitaries, distributed prizes to winners of sports, art, craft, and literary activities, as well as essay and painting competitions organised for school students.
A colorful Fancy Dress Competition themed around the children’s dreams and aspirations emerged as a major highlight, drawing enthusiastic applause from the gathering.
Dr Oimang Megu, Chairperson of H-Spring Foundation, shared the vision behind establishing the organisation on August 19, 2023. “Our centre is dedicated to promoting inclusion, dignity, opportunity, empowerment, and holistic development for children with special needs, their families, and the community in general,” Megu said.
She outlined the centre’s key focus areas, including Early Intervention and Rehabilitation and the H-Spring Integrated School. The foundation supports children with various conditions including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Speech and Language Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Global Developmental Delay, Down Syndrome, Intellectual and Learning Disabilities, and other neurological conditions.
Megu highlighted the foundation’s emphasis on academia and student engagement, providing psychology students and B Ed. Special Education trainees hands-on exposure through internships in early intervention, therapy observation, and community engagement. The foundation collaborates with Arunachal Pradesh University, Pasighat, to strengthen this initiative.
Recently, H-Spring Foundation was awarded Best Stall during the 39th Statehood Day celebrations for showcasing the theme of Inclusivity and Empowerment of Children with Special Needs through creative crafts, further recognition of its impactful work in the region.
