In a resounding political debut, former IPS officer and BJP candidate Anand Mishra clinched the Buxar Assembly seat, defeating sitting Congress MLA Sanjay Kumar Tiwari by a massive margin of 28,353 votes in the Bihar Assembly elections.
Mishra, a decorated 2011-batch officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, secured 84,901 votes, decisively overcoming Tiwari’s tally of 56,548 votes. His victory triggered jubilant celebrations across the constituency, with supporters bursting crackers, dancing, and distributing sweets.

The win marks a significant transition for Mishra, who resigned from his prestigious post as Superintendent of Police in Assam’s Lakhimpur district to enter the political arena. Known for his integrity and popularity during his service, he cultivated a cult-like following in Assam, where fans also celebrated his electoral triumph.

Speaking after his win, Mishra expressed gratitude to the voters and the party leadership. “I thank the people of Buxar for their unwavering faith and blessings. This victory is dedicated to them. I also extend my heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP for entrusting me with this responsibility. I am committed to serving the people to the best of my ability,” Mishra stated.

Reacting on Mishra’s victory, renowned journalist from Bihar Rishikesh Pathak said, “It is a rare and commendable occurrence when an individual leaves a prestigious job like the IPS to join politics. It is a good sign for the nation that more educated and experienced individuals are stepping into the political field, which will undoubtedly strengthen our democracy.”
Mishra’s entry into the Bihar legislative assembly is seen as the arrival of a new brand of leadership, rooted in administrative experience and a popular connect.
