Dibrugarh Police Cracks Down on Noisy Motorcycles, Impounds Vehicles

In a strong response to public outcry over noise pollution, the Dibrugarh Police Traffic Branch conducted a stringent enforcement drive on Friday. The operation targeted motorcycles fitted with illegally modified silencers, resulting in ten vehicles being impounded on the first day.

The drive, prompted by a surge of complaints from residential and commercial areas, saw police officers physically removing the unauthorised silencers. Alongside impounding the motorcycles, authorities levied substantial fines and suspended the driving licenses of repeat offenders under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Dibrugarh Additional SP Atul Kumar said, “We have been receiving numerous complaints from citizens about the excessive noise pollution created by motorcycles with modified silencers. These illegal modifications not only violate traffic regulations but also cause significant public disturbance. We are acting firmly to stop this nuisance.”

In addition to punitive measures, the police held counseling sessions for the violators and their guardians. These sessions aimed to educate them on the legal and social consequences of using modified exhausts.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by Dibrugarh Police to enhance traffic discipline and improve the quality of life for residents. Officials confirmed that such enforcement drives will continue regularly to ensure compliance with the law and maintain public peace.
