Dibrugarh Airport conducted its annual bomb threat mock exercise on Monday, in a comprehensive drill designed to test emergency preparedness protocols and enhance coordination among multiple security agencies responsible for passenger safety.
The high-stakes simulation exercise was executed under the direction of CISF Deputy Commandant Rohit Sahare and supervised by Dibrugarh Airport Director Bangajit Saha. The drill brought together various agencies in a coordinated response scenario, evaluating the airport’s readiness to handle potential security threats while ensuring minimal disruption to passenger safety.
The mock exercise simulated a bomb threat scenario, requiring immediate activation of standard operating procedures that would be deployed during an actual emergency. Security personnel, airport staff, and representatives from various agencies participated in the drill, demonstrating evacuation protocols, threat assessment procedures, and communication systems.
The drill tested multiple aspects of emergency response, including threat detection, passenger evacuation, perimeter security, bomb disposal protocols, and communication channels between different agencies. The exercise also evaluated the airport’s ability to coordinate with local law enforcement, fire services, medical emergency teams, and other stakeholders who would be involved in managing such incidents.
“This annual exercise is crucial for assessing our security preparedness and identifying any gaps in our emergency response mechanisms. The drill allows us to test real-time coordination among all agencies and ensure that every team member understands their role during a crisis situation. The mock drills are essential for airports to maintain certification standards and ensure that security personnel remain familiar with constantly evolving threat scenarios. These exercises also help identify potential vulnerabilities in existing security infrastructure and operational procedures,” Airport Director Bangajit Saha said.
The Dibrugarh Airport authorities has made security preparedness a top priority, particularly given the increasing passenger traffic and the strategic importance of the facility as a key connectivity hub for upper Assam and neighbouring regions. The airport serves as a vital link for both civilian passengers and emergency services in the region.
Following the completion of the drill, a debriefing session was conducted to analyse the response, evaluate performance metrics, and document lessons learned. Officials said that insights gained from the exercise would be used to refine emergency protocols and enhance training programs for security personnel.
