Dibrugarh Hanumanbux Surajmal Kanoi (DHSK) College (Autonomous) on Thursday inaugurated a modern Girls’ Common Room complex, featuring a dedicated recreation room and washroom with contemporary facilities, emphasising a commitment to student welfare and holistic education.
Principal Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia who inaugurated the facility highlighted the collective effort behind the project. “We can do very little alone. But together we can do many things. Working together can go a long way,” he stated. The project was completed through the cooperation of college teachers, staff, and the Students’ Union.

Dr Saikia linked the new infrastructure to broader educational values. “Cleanliness and transparency should not only be a habit of people, it is a symbol of self-respect,” he said. He asserted that academic excellence alone is insufficient, noting, “Even if a student passes with a gold medal, if he does not know how to stay clean, his education is not complete. Cleanliness is another name for the service of God.”

The principal highlighted the recreation room’s role in mental well-being. “The brain does not rest if you are busy studying alone. This room will be a place for students to think freely, interact and relax,” he explained, saying it is not merely for entertainment but for creative discussion and mutual learning.

He urged students to use the facilities honestly, reinforcing the college’s focus on providing a healthy environment and proper infrastructure for student health and mental peace. Vice-Principal Dr Partha Ganguli, Academic Council Member Secretary Dr Jyoti Prasad Phukan, GB member Dr Madhumita Purkayastha, Dr Devanjan Hazarika, and faculty were present. The event also saw attendance from current and former student union office-bearers, including Secretary Ramiza Begum, former Girls Common room Secretary Bharshi Gogoi, Present Secretary, General Secretary Bedbyas Bori and representatives from other local colleges.

Established in 1945, DHSK College continues to expand its campus facilities for comprehensive student development.
