Cricket Legend Kapil Dev Greeted with Fan Frenzy in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh was swept with a wave of cricketing nostalgia and excitement as the legendary Kapil Dev arrived in the city on Thursday. The former Indian captain, widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders the game has ever seen, was greeted by a warm reception from eager fans and officials upon his landing at the Dibrugarh Airport.

Kapil Dev is in Assam to attend a golf event of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) in Digboi. Following his arrival, he first made his way to the Manohari Resort in Dibrugarh before proceeding to his final destination. His presence, however, created moments of pure delight for local cricket enthusiasts who gathered to catch a glimpse of their hero.

Fans eagerly sought autographs and took selfies with the smiling cricketer, who graciously obliged. “I have watched him on television leading India to the 1983 World Cup win. To see him in person in our city is a dream come true. His energy is still the same,” said Anurag Dutta, an excited fan who managed to get his cap signed.

The 1983 World Cup-winning captain remains an iconic figure in Indian sports history. Kapil Dev is the only player in the history of cricket to have achieved the monumental ‘double’ of scoring over 5,000 runs and taking more than 400 wickets in Test cricket, a testament to his unparalleled skill as a genuine all-rounder.
