East Siang Police has enlisted the star power of actor, model, and entrepreneur Chum Darang as the new Child Safety Ambassador for its flagship initiative, Project Muskaan. Her formal induction is hailed as a significant boost to the district’s efforts in child protection and community outreach.
Project Muskaan, launched on November 11, 2025, is a dedicated child safety program focused on empowering school children. It provides sensitisation on critical topics like Good Touch–Bad Touch, provisions of the POCSO and Juvenile Justice (JJ) Acts, bullying prevention, and online/cyber safety. The initiative has already made a considerable impact, covering 69 schools and reaching over 8,300 students to date. Furthermore, 55 schools have been equipped with Police Complaint Boxes to ensure confidential and accessible reporting.

As a renowned young achiever from Arunachal Pradesh with national recognition, Chum Darang’s association brings a powerful and highly relatable voice to the program. Her strong public connect, especially with school-going children and teenagers, is expected to significantly amplify the project’s reach.“Child safety is a shared responsibility, and I am proud to lend my voice to Project Muskaan. It’s crucial that our children feel safe, respected, and, most importantly, know that they have the right to speak up without fear. We must work together—parents, schools, and the police—to build a protective environment for every child,” she said.

East Siang SP Pankaj Lamba warmly welcomed the new Ambassador. “Chum Darang’s commitment will undoubtedly deepen community participation and help us build a safer, more empowered environment for every child. Her influence will encourage more reporting of concerns and strengthen awareness on child rights.”
The induction ceremony was attended by key police personnel, including CO 5th IRBn Smt Garima, SDPO Pasighat Dr Akanksha, DSP (HQ) Ayup Boko, and OC WPS Amum Panyang.
