In a shocking act of audacity, a gang of robbers targeted a home in broad daylight in the Vishnu Nagar area of Duliajan on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred at the residence of Keshab Bora between 1.10 pm and 2.30 pm, while the family was away, resulting in the theft of valuables worth over Rs 3 lakh.
Preliminary reports indicate that the criminals took advantage of the empty house, gaining entry and conducting a thorough ransacking. The looted items include a substantial quantity of gold jewellery and several valuable brass utensils, with the total estimated loss exceeding three lakh rupees. The precision of the timing has led investigators to suspect the robbers may have conducted prior surveillance.
Officials from the Duliajan Police Station rushed to the scene immediately and launched an investigation after being alerted by the distressed family upon their return. The incident has sent waves of anxiety through the Vishnu Nagar community, with residents alarmed by the escalating boldness of criminals.
“To think robbers could strike in the middle of the day, right under our noses, is terrifying.This was a well-planned daytime robbery. The culprits operated in a narrow, 80-minute window when they were certain the house was unoccupied. We urge the police to increase visible patrolling immediately,” a neighbour said.
