The Bharatiya Janata Party held a significant general meeting and election campaign event on Thursday at Sompoi village, Diyun, in Changlang district, mobilising support for its 14/02 Zilla Parishad Constituency (ZPM) candidate, Lathow Onggam, ahead of the Panchayat Raj Election 2025. The gathering saw a notable turnout of supporters and voters from the Diyun Gram Panchayat segment.

The campaign meeting was attended by a host of senior party figures, including BJP State Vice President and Namsai MLA Zingnu Namchoom, former MLA and State Council Member Somlung Mossang, BJP Mandal President Nongja Ingthem Singpho, and BJP Changlang District President Roshan Neimu.
During their addresses, party leaders repeatedly claimed that Diyun has experienced a lack of substantial development—spanning infrastructure, connectivity, and welfare schemes—due to the absence of BJP representation at the grassroots level. They directly challenged the opposition’s narrative of “coordination” between the incumbent MLA and ZPM.

District President Roshan Neimu highlighted the national party’s achievements and urged voters to back the BJP candidate. “You may not have seen me often, but today I came to ask for your vote for Lathow Onggam. Our government at the state level has delivered many benefits, and we believe electing our ZPM will allow us to accelerate this progress in Diyun,” Neimu stated.
Chief Guest and star campaigner Zingnu Namchoom conveyed the message of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. He stated that the party seeks grassroots control to ensure the effective implementation of welfare programmes.
“We want the local government in Diyun to be led by BJP so that the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 and Vishwa Guru can be effectively pursued,” Namchoom affirmed.
Responding to media queries regarding the poor state of the Diyun–Innao road, Namchoom assured that if the party wins the ZPM and GPM seats, funding for the road project would be arranged, citing a Rs 2,000 crore provision for priority works under schemes like the Chief Minister Comprehensive Road Network Scheme or through the RWD.
As the Panchayat elections approach, the contest between the BJP and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is expected to be highly competitive. The level of public participation and the strong mobilisation observed in recent BJP meetings suggest the party is making a focused effort to gain ground in the Diyun-Bordumsa area.
