100-Feet Statue of Dr Bhupen Hazarika to Be Erected at Dhola-Sadiya Bridge

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that a majestic 100-feet tall statue of Dr Bhupen Hazarika will be erected at the zero point of the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge (Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu) in Tinsukia district. The announcement came on the occasion of the legendary musician’s 14th death anniversary.

Paying homage to the Bharat Ratna awardee, the Chief Minister described Dr Hazarika as “the voice that united hearts” and said the towering statue will serve as a symbol of harmony and inspiration for both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

“Bhupen Hazarika during his time had further strengthened the ties between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh through his works,” Sarma stated. He added that the monumental statue would inspire future generations and symbolise the enduring bond between the two northeastern states.

In a further tribute, the Chief Minister announced that a street in every town and city across Assam will be dedicated in the name of the legendary singer, ensuring his legacy remains woven into the state’s cultural fabric.

On the 14th Punyatithi of Dr Hazarika, his immortal creation “Manuhe Manuhor Babe” resonated across Assam as people paid tribute to the musical icon.

“As Assam resonates with ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe…’, we honour our Bhupen Da, the voice of humanity and hope. May his legacy inspire us to build a compassionate and self-reliant Assam as envisaged by the Bard of the Brahmaputra,” CM Sarma wrote on X.
